Welcome to Our
COMMUNITY GARDEN
HERMAN BROWN PARK
FURR HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY GARDEN
The community garden was established in 2016 through a partnership
between Furr High School and Houston Parks and Recreation.
Community Garden
The garden is utilized as an outdoor experimental classroom for students of Furr High School, Career and Technical Education of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Students and volunteers build an understanding of sustainability and connection with the land through the permaculture practices, “care for the earth, care for the people and fair share.”
Our goal is to demonstrate, teach students and community sustainable organic permaculture practices.
We created a food forest design, considering nature, and how the space may coexist with wildlife.
The produce is distributed through “fair share,” to volunteers, students and those who work the land.
